Aspenshaw Hall, New Mills

Aspenshaw Hall, a historic residence near New Mills, was once reputed to be haunted by unexplained disturbances linked to a lawyer’s abandoned library. After his death, any attempt to tidy the books resulted in terrifying noises likened to tumbling stones or explosions, and occupants reported bedclothes being dragged from their beds. Though the hauntings reportedly ceased over time, the tale of the ‘Haunted Books’ lingered in local folklore.
