Bramall Hall, Bramhall
Bramall Hall is linked to a legend from about 1630 in which a traveller dressed in red stayed overnight and Sir William Davenport was found dead the next morning, while the guest vanished. The Red Rider is said to return each New Year’s Eve, his horse heard in the courtyard. In October 1927 staff reported hoofbeats during a storm on the night owner John Davies died. Later vigil reports mention unexplained footsteps, latch sounds and an oppressive atmosphere in the Plaster Room.
