Eyam Hall, built in 1671 and still occupied by the Wright family, is said to be haunted by several spirits. The most enduring tale is that of a young woman who drowned herself in the wash-house well; her apparition, known as the White Lady, is believed to appear before a family death. The last recorded sighting was in 1937, before the death of Charlotte Wright. Other reports include a spectral white horse that gallops across the courtyard on certain nights, and an elderly man once seen in an upper room that was subsequently kept locked.
