A a prominent venue in Stockport, the Garrick Theatre was said to be haunted by the ghost of a woman who died violently in the theatre’s roping room over a century ago. Described as a shadowy figure in a large cape, her presence was often accompanied by a sudden chill. Caretaker Arthur Gill reported seeing her several times and noted posters being mysteriously pulled from the walls until he confronted the spirit aloud. A builder once refused to re-enter the auditorium after being startled by her.
