The George and Dragon Hotel on Church Street, Wilmslow, was long reputed to be haunted. In 1971, barman Cliff Hatch fled the cellar after seeing a white-shrouded figure which passed through him. Landlords Albert and Margaret Taylor also reported doors and windows opening and closing on their own, and the sound of footsteps upstairs when no one was there. The cellar was said to connect by priest hole to nearby St Bartholomew’s Church, leading some to believe the ghost was a friendly priest.
