Hawthorn Hall, Wilmslow

Hawthorn Hall in Wilmslow was once said to be haunted by the ghost of Leigh Page, a lawyer believed to have unfairly gained possession of the estate. Legend claimed that at his funeral the six black horses pulling his hearse sweated under a supernatural burden, and that his body was later found resting on a turf pillow in the family vault. His ghost was thought to guard hidden treasure within the hall. Two local men once attempted to confront the spirit, only to be tricked by pranksters and punished for damaging the wainscoting in their treasure hunt.
