Kings Arms, Wilmslow

The King’s Arms pub in Wilmslow is said to stand on the site of a legendary battle where King Arthur’s knights were slain. Local folklore claims that Merlin himself haunts the cellars. The landlord once reported seeing a white-bearded apparition carrying a cross while changing a barrel, and a visiting American academic in 1969 described witnessing a glowing energy that took the shape of a knight in armour. Some link the hauntings to nearby Fulshaw Cross, believed to be tied to ancient Arthurian lore. Even the landlord’s dogs were said to flee the cellar in fright.
