In the 1930s, a family living on Liverpool Road in Eccles reported violent disturbances after three quiet years. Noises came nightly from an upstairs room, and each morning they found their beds mysteriously moved. A dark figure dressed as a priest was often seen on the ground floor, once vanishing through a wall. The family learned that a former priest of St Mary’s Church, Father Sharrock, had died in the house around 1900. Though prayers were said for him, the haunting worsened until the current priest performed an exorcism, after which the activity ceased.
