In Bradwell, legend tells of a murdered girl buried beneath the stairs of a house at Hill Head whose ghost terrified villagers until a self-proclaimed exorcist forced it to take the form of a fish in the Lumb Mouth stream. Each Christmas Eve it was said to become a white ousel and fly to Lumbly Pool, a story long remembered as the “Lumb Boggart.”
