Mauldeth Hall, Heaton Moor

Built in the 1830s and later used as the Northern Counties Hospital for Incurables, Mauldeth Hall gained notoriety in 1978 when nurses reported being scratched and touched by the ghost of a recently deceased patient, prompting priests of three denominations to perform a night-time exorcism. The phantom was described as an elderly woman in white, said to resemble a former patient named Irene. In the early 1990s, security guards again reported hearing cries and seeing an old nurse in a Victorian bonnet.
