In 1973, after renovations began at Payne’s Pet Shop, owner Carol Payne and her assistant reported a haunting linked to a man said to have hanged himself in the outhouse years earlier. Carol twice saw a male figure, once stepping aside for him to pass and once watching him walk through a brick wall. Unexplained temperature changes, self-flushing toilets, barking dogs, and flying objects followed, and Carol was once grasped by invisible hands. The disturbances lasted six months, ending shortly before the family moved away.
