Phantom Horses, Edale

At the crossroads between Edale church and the railway station, several villagers once heard horses galloping towards them on a bright moonlit night. Believing the animals had bolted, the men stood in the road to stop them, but the thundering hooves passed straight through without a horse in sight. Others reported the same uncanny sound in the same place. Some say the phantom steeds date back to the days when the Royal Forest of the Peak kept a prized stud nearby and the horses of long-dead foresters still race along the lanes of Edale beneath the moon.
