A former vicar’s wife at St Leonard’s Church claimed to have repeatedly seen the comforting figure of a clergyman within the church, believed to be the spirit of the Rev. Robert Lomas. Lomas met his death after falling over Parson’s Tor in Lathkil Dale while returning from Bakewell on horseback one dark night. Poems commemorate his tragic end, and for years a tuft of grass said to have been found in his clenched hand was kept in a glass jar inside the church.
