Stoke Hall, overlooking the Derwent Valley near Froggatt Edge, has long been reputedly haunted by the spirit of a maid known as Fair Flora. Said to have been murdered while mourning a soldier lover, her restless ghost has appeared at the Hall for over a century. Early accounts describe her as headless, wandering the grounds where a memorial was built in her honour. When the monument mysteriously shifted from its place, it was rebuilt in a quiet corner of the estate, where it remains today.
