Tameside Hippodrome, Ashton-under-Lyne
The long-closed Tameside Hippodrome is said to be haunted by a ghost known as Ernie, a shadowy figure seen on the upper balcony, wearing a raincoat and beckoning silently before vanishing. Actor Jack Douglas reported seeing him during a 1978 pantomime, mistaking the figure for a staff member until it disappeared before his eyes. Unexplained footsteps have been heard on stage, and legend claims they belong to someone who hanged themselves in the theatre. Some accounts also speak of a ghostly violinist and other uneasy presences within the building.
