In 1959, the Foster family of Topley Street reported being haunted by three ghosts: a woman in white who drifted through doors, a laughing plump man seated in a chair, and an elderly scowling woman. The disturbances were said to have forced the family from one of their bedrooms. Psychical investigators held séances in the house—formerly used for spiritualist meetings—and claimed to confirm supernatural activity. The haunting was believed to stem from a broken promise to bury Mrs. Foster’s mother in the family grave.
