The Malt Shovels, Cheadle
In 1973, caretaker Brian Withington reported seeing a grey-haired man with rounded shoulders in the cellar of the Malt Shovels Hotel in Cheadle. The figure vanished suddenly, leaving him terrified. Cleaner Jean Garnett later identified the apparition as Tom Ward, a former landlord who had died two years earlier.
