The Shakespeare Hotel on Fountain Street, Manchester, is said to be haunted by the ghost of a servant girl who died in the 19th century after her clothes caught fire in the kitchen. In panic, she ran upstairs before collapsing and dying from her burns. Her apparition is frequently seen near the stairs, and unexplained activity such as moving rocking chairs, self-igniting gas cookers, and cold spots have been reported. Animals once refused to enter the bar, adding to its eerie reputation.
