The Thatched House, Stockport

Formerly the Thatched Tavern, this building once served as Stockport’s first infirmary and mortuary before becoming a public house. In 1966, licensees Mary and Bob Jackson claimed to have captured a ghostly face behind a deceased employee in a photograph, identified by relatives as the man’s grandfather. The pub was also linked to sightings of Dr James Briscall, its founder, seen in a tall hat, as well as a terrifying female presence in the cellar and reports of unseen forces pushing drinkers.
