Waterloo Hotel, Stockport

Known locally as “The Cowshed,” the Waterloo Hotel on Waterloo Road was one of Stockport’s oldest pubs, said to be around 400 years old. Landlord Alan Rey once joked that he had found “six ghosts” while clearing its cobwebs, and tenants reported unexplained footsteps moving through empty rooms. Mrs. Jemming Key recalled hearing them while her husband slept upstairs, only for the sounds to stop whenever anyone approached. With an old well and a battered cask in the cellar, some locals said the spirit was still searching for one last drink.
