Wormhill Brow, Styal

Wormhill Brow, the steep road leading toward Styal, gained a grim reputation after a man named Locket was killed there one night while returning from a Foresters’ feast; a stone is said to mark the spot where his body was found. The man responsible fled abroad and was never brought to trial. For years afterwards, locals spoke of the place with unease, and travellers reported a sense of dread when passing the hollow after dark.
