At Cairn Top, legend told of a Jewish pedlar who was murdered there. According to Ralph Whitlock’s Folklore of Devon (1977), his ghost was said to haunt the surrounding bushes and lanes. Witnesses claimed to have seen his restless spirit wandering the area, and folklore added a curious twist — that the pedlar could transform himself into a ghostly white rabbit seen darting among the undergrowth.
