Following a store refit in the 1990s, staff at the Co-op on Gill Bent Road began reporting ghostly incidents involving an elderly man in a long brown coat. The figure was seen entering the shop but left no trace on CCTV footage. Staff nicknamed the spectre ‘Harry’, attributing to him various odd occurrences such as a stacked pile of lemon Madeira cakes, upright freezer covers, and unexplained alarms. Though never threatening, his presence was regularly noted and regarded with humour by the team.
