The now-demolished Disley and Lyme Handley Conservative Club, originally built in 1909, was reputedly haunted, with accounts from the 1960s claiming sightings of a silver-haired man sitting in the cellar and unexplained noises throughout the building. Steward Gordon Lofthouse, who worked at the club, reported seeing the figure vanish before his eyes and hearing footsteps and strange sounds when alone, leading him to spend a night on the premises in an attempt to confront the disturbances.
