Hansford’s Cake Shop, Gorton
In 1976, Hansford’s Cake Shop on Cross Street, Gorton, became the scene of a chaotic haunting as it awaited demolition. Two women who ran the shop reported flying objects, including knives, cream cakes, and hot-pot pies. One was struck on the head while serving customers, and a repairman was also hit. A BBC Radio Manchester reporter captured mysterious knocking sounds inside the shop, a recording now held in local archives. Attempts to bless the building failed, and the disturbances ended only when the shop was finally demolished.
