Highlow Hall, Hathersage
Highlow Hall near Hathersage, once home to the Eyre family, is said to be haunted by a White Lady. Believed to be the spirit of a murdered woman or the ghost of a jilted Archer sister betrayed by Nicholas Eyre in the 14th century, she is seen gliding across the courtyard, ascending the oak staircase, or gazing into a water trough. Her appearances are sometimes accompanied by the sound of silk rustling or muffled thuds on the stairs, thought to echo the dragging of her body after the murder.
