Hockley, Sutton

Hockley, a house in Sutton near Macclesfield, was reportedly haunted by the apparition of an elderly man seen seated on a chest on the staircase. According to an account provided by Mrs Hodgson, her aunt, Ellen Dunkerley, witnessed this figure when staying at the property during her engagement to George Hine, a member of the Quaker family who resided there. Additionally, unexplained footsteps and strange noises were frequently heard. After the Hine family sold the house to a Mrs Ardern, these disturbances allegedly continued, preventing her from occupying the property.
