Lowtop, Werneth Low
At Lowtop Farm on Werneth Low, a farmer and his daughter repeatedly saw a white-robed figure watching them from the edge of Springwood, a small plantation beside Bronze Age burial mounds. Their horses grew terrified near the spot, and the farmer later learned that an earlier landowner had robbed the ancient graves for building stone. Locals believed the apparition to be a Druid guarding the disturbed barrows. The nearby spring, long flowing from the hillside, was thought to mark an ancient Celtic shrine.
