Eyam and Stoney Middleton Dales are said to be haunted by a phantom cyclist who races silently through the valleys, sometimes vanishing mid-ride. Witnesses have leapt aside to avoid collision after hearing tyres skidding or a bicycle bell ringing, only to find the road empty. One cyclist, struggling uphill in heavy rain, claimed to be overtaken by a bone-dry rider who sped away and disappeared. Sightings most often occur near the top of Eyam Dale at Top Scrin, where locals say the ghostly cyclist continues his endless nocturnal journey.
