The Seven Sisters, Knutsford

At the junction of Toft and Peover Roads stands a cluster of chestnut trees known as the Seven Sisters. Local legend claims an old woman asked to be buried on the spot with a bag of nuts to sustain her until Judgment Day. After her burial, her ghost was seen sitting on her gravestone eating the nuts in the sunshine. When one rolled away and sprouted, it is said to have grown into the first of the seven trees.
