Jacobite Ghost, Swinscoe

In 1965 actress Diana Dors claimed to have seen a ghost while staying alone in a 400-year-old cottage near the Dog and Partridge at Swinscoe. Awakened suddenly one night, she saw a long-haired figure that she described as “pretty horrible” standing in the room. Locals linked the sighting to the Jacobite retreat of 1745, when several of Bonnie Prince Charlie’s men were captured and executed nearby. The apparition is thought to be one of their restless spirits.
