Victoria Theatre, Salford
Before its closure in 1972, the Victoria Theatre in Salford was famous for its ghost known as “Phyllis,” a lady in white thought to be the spirit of an Edwardian programme-seller or possibly a suffragette who fell to her death from the gallery. Staff often reported perfume scents, footsteps, and sightings of her moving through walls. A barmaid once fled after seeing her in the bar, and an elderly actress ran into the street in terror. Former stage staff said she appeared when things were going badly, and some even looked forward to her visits.
