Eyam Hall, built in 1671 and still occupied by the Wright family, is said to be haunted by several spirits. The most enduring tale is that of a young woman who drowned herself in the wash-house well; her apparition, known as the White Lady, is believed to appear before a family death. The last recorded sighting was in 1937, before the death of Charlotte Wright. Other reports include a spectral white horse that gallops across the courtyard on certain nights, and an elderly man once seen in an upper room that was subsequently kept locked. The hall remains open to visitors.
