In the 1970s, author Mrs Thorp claimed her home, Stonehurst, was haunted by the ghost of a young girl seen in one of the bedrooms. She based her children’s book The Ghost of Stonehurst on the experience, describing how the family’s children befriended the spirit. Later accounts mention a girl seen waving from an upstairs window.
