According to David Clarke in his book Ghosts & Legends of the Peak District, Yhelt cottage was haunted by ”the ghost of a nun surrounded by a bright, unearthly illumination’ in 1953. Clarke suggests the cottage may have been built by the site of an old nunnery, but there’s no evidence to back up this claim.
