Marple
Marple is a town in the upper Goyt Valley on the south-eastern edge of Stockport borough, defined by its canal, its flight of sixteen locks, and the wooded valley landscape around it. The area has a history of settlement that predates the canal period significantly, and the ruins of Marple Hall, demolished in the 1950s, represent a substantial loss to the built record of the valley.
Its haunting accounts draw on both the canal-era history and the older landscape the canal replaced.
